I have not been too good lately at keeping up with my clients projects as of lately.
Not proud to admit it but it's the truth, and it's cost me some money I needed to survive.
So the lesson for today kids, when someone pays for your fine art services make sure you finish on time.Or you will be known as the guy that can't be trusted to finish.

One day I won't need clients, but right now I really do.

I had just purchased a Opteka MC-36b remote cord for my Nikon D90 had some free time to test it out.
Set the tripod up in the middle of the front seats, with one leg secured into the back seat so it wouldn't topple over.Shot at 1fps.
It was a real blast to edit hi resolution JPEGs.

Lens:
Nikon Series E 28mm 2.8 with conversion lens in front. Sharpness is mostly in the center.

Used Blender 3d to edit and color. No cropping just reduced by 25%(1608x1068).
Music track is from Steven Soderbergh's Schizopolis.

I've gotten a little bit of down time from art after completing 2 acrylic on canvas and 2 story board comic book type pages that are being hang and displayed on at Cafe hey .I learn a few thing about myself and this new world putting traditional artwork in public places.For starters never back down when you say"Yeah!I'll do some wok for the festival".Don't be lazy an do it last minute unless you know that you can work good under pressure.Don't expect the patrons to help you arrange your stuff on the wall.They are already doing you a favour having you work in their fine establishment.Check your words when doing your title cards by your self,and when your done checking,proofread it again one more time for mistakes before going to print it.Yeah I stumbled throw the door on this art festival,sacrifice most of my hang out aquatencies, as I was in my lab focusing on completing an improving my art or making money with it.But I met some new friends with similair interest and rebooted relationships with old ones.
So all in all, I gained and won more this round.
Rant over.I'll post how the art turn out soon.

Just testing it on a couple of community models,and left the backgrounds white to emphasise the lines.
I've tried using particles objects for tire dust but It doesn't seem to render yet.

Really love getting results like this in blender.

"Always Moving Forward" Is a visual hair short I was involved in with my good friend Scott Bentley and the B-Concept Artistic team. I am credited as Film Producer and music is by Shadrick Ferrar.

This is my edit as it has more documentary shots than the edit at the hair show.
It's was more less run an gun,but each time I do these flicks I learn something new working with Scott's art direction.

I've had these two blank canvas that have been collecting dust because painting on them means I have no undo button,so I'm grabing any scrap piece of materials as practice for serious acrylic work.

The first one the yellow is really washed out because of my bad white balancing in the camera.
It was done as a challenge to do a painting with only black an yellow.

Going to be painting on canvas really soon:)

Found a very nice vector base drawing pogrom called Alchemy that can also make art using a microphone with it.Last image I coloured in Gimp,as Alchemy is more about creating form out of chaos.

Any time I pick a comic book I'm always trying to figure out how to animate the images.Speed lines have been around for a while in moving images, but I have only seen the Japanese do it how it wold look like in a comic.

Used hair particles,made a few keyframes and rotated it in the same spot.
Going to add this as one of my effect shot in the Sci-fi short I making.

Another blenderhead came across a SIGGRAPH paper about using stand alone 3d software to create a painterly style art.Others and myself started to see if it was possible with Blender.
Everyone uses Suzanne the monkey and I used Big buck bunny last test,so this time I'm using Jim from the Blender animation dvd.

I was watching a presentation with Mdot strange about how he did the motions for the characters in his music video,and thought that mabye I could do the same with the record to mouse function in blender.

The motions are bumpy in a few places, but it is only a test.

Just got done watching Killer bean forever,and I must say I'm impressed that Jeff Lew pulled off this one man animated movie.I watched the making of and there are tons of tips for animators wanting to follow this path.Even if your not into animating it's still entertaining to watch.
Well it's early in the morning and I'm felling sick from drinking two beers so I am out.

What a battle.
I just got my P.C. upgraded to Quad core system.It's pretty much a new computer and is blazing fast than what I was using before.Going to change the O.S to Ubuntu 64bit later today to use it's full potential.

I’ve recently changed my operating system from windows xp to Ubuntu Linux and I have to say I’m quite happy with th switch. I’ll probably us windows in a studio environment or on a friends p.c.,but as building my own computer it will be a Linux distro from now on. Most of the software I used was open source anyways except for Artrage and I got Wine doors to get it to work. I even using Open Office to type this and the spell check is pretty cool. Also did a update to Ubuntu studio and there are all these really nice audio software that you make music with,be it real or virtual instruments .A lot of cool artwork is on it way=)

Now on to getting Blender/freestyle svn to work on this.

Transmute

This was put together for my friend Scott of Bentley's salon.
He was director on this while I manned the the cameras.

These girls were beautiful and great to work with.

Old Gato dvd intro

Way back when I started getting my feet wet with video editing and computer graphics.Ranmecca and I had a sudo studio name "Gato" for our collaborated works.

These were some very fun times.It wasn't just me by myself being creative,but also Ran,who ever I was skatboading with,and even the girls that were hanging out with us put there two cents in.After the footage started stacking up,it was time to put in on a dvd,and I wanted to grab the attention of who ever was going to watch it, so I went all out on the intro with everything I thought was cool at the time.

Yeah!Sure it looks wild and crummy compared to what I would do now,but it alway good to look back and see how you got started.

I can't post all the vids from the dvd,but if you ever over on my side of town and behave yourself,I'll show em to ya.

Nikon D90

I'm very near to pulling the trigger on purchasing a Nikon D90.

Was waiting on Red to come out with the 2K resolution scarlet movie camera, but the industry is getting a shake it rightfully needs right now and Red cinema looks like they are working on a DSLR killer.Plus the Nikon falls in my price range of something I can use still photos for print, shoot movies with interchangeable lenses and not worry about cumbersome 35mm adapters,all in one device.
This camera will most likely cater to photojournalist so they don't have to carry around a still an a video camera,but folks are already using it to shoot movie shorts,music videos,family outing,and low light cinematography.
There are some limitation to it,but it's a good starting point to whats going come down the road.

Staying inspired

It's one of those days again.

Not everything went well today.Had some personal issues bog me down and I feel creatively burned out.
Every artist must experience on some level,but it's got me thinking how staying inspired really helps from being down in the dumps for to long.
Since looking into the blank page of death can have you mesmerized,I did more reading late in the day and searched about the thing that inspire me to get the juices flowing.

A very wise man(Rune Spanans) said.

"Don't sit up late nights fighting problems."

Too many late nights struggling with some drawing detail, render bug or other problem is destructive. Leave early, get some time away from the screen. Then your mind will be more relaxed and better suited to solve whatever you're up against. Too many late nights banging your head against problems will eat you up inside out. If this means losing a deadline or milestone, so be it. There's more to life than milestones. It's more important that you have energy to work, than for you to reach every single deadline.

"Leave when you're on a roll."

You've just solved a major problem, you're feeling great and have energy for a couple more hours of late evening work. That's the perfect time to get away from your desk and leave for the day! Then you'll leave your desk with a positive memory of working, full of extra inspiration that is better used the next working day.

"Identify the things that inspire you."

Whenever you get a rush of inspiration, make a mental note of what is causing it. I have a very long list of things that give me inspiration; good music, films by Pixar, my Gundam robot instructions, Star Wars art books, lego sets, good literature, walks in nature and so on. I've even made a little book of pictures and photos that give me an creativity boost. Whenever I feel exhausted and empty, I just visit the things on my list, or browse through my little book. But be sure to differentiate between feeling good and feeling inspired. For example, eating food makes me feel good, but it doesn't make me feel inspired.

"Identify what is killing your inspiration."

Just as important as keeping track of the things that inspire you, is figuring out what is doing the opposite. Then simply avoid those negative things. In my case these things happen to be people and types of projects. I do a lot of work in the advertising business, and some people there can be extremely negative and condenscending. Being smart and ironic on others expense is how some people raise their social status. I simply stay away from people that are like that, trying instead to be in the company of people that inspire and support me.

"Make sure being at work brings positive associations."

Some times work can be painfully repetitive and boring, and you only want to go home and relax with friends or your wife. You start thinking everyone at work talks like idiots, and holidays seem way too far away. If that's the case, make sure you identify why you are feeling like that. Being negative at work is extremely contagious, and it can really hurt an otherwise nice workplace. It spreads to your colleagues, and suddenly you are on this downward spiral of negativity. If you are fond of the people you work with, it is very important you have positive associations with being at work. Remember to have fun with your colleagues during working hours and outside of work: play videogames at lunch, be social and have dinners together, make fun of clients, take time for seminars and take time to relax.

"Procrastinating?"

Some days you just can't get started with anything. Here's what I do: I just open the software and my current project file. Sometimes that can be the biggest hurdle. The empty screen looking at you can become an obstacle itself. If you just open the software and start looking through your file you may find that you slowly start working again. I had that problem with this website for quite some time. I just couldn't get to work on it, and weeks would pass with no progress at all. But as soon as I managed to open my HTML editor and started looking through the files I found stuff here and there that I wanted to fix. Now I just load up the project I'm working on as soon as I switch on my machine, and without knowing it I'm working again.

He had more to say, but I posted the ones that made good mantra for what was going on in my head early today.

With that I'm going to watch some Gurren Lagenn and tomorrow, pierce my drill through the heavens:).
